"It is my desire to connect to the viewer in a meaningful way by exploring multiple sides of me: the light and dark, the quiet and the movement, and the smooth and textured."
Leanne Trivett S. is a photographer and visual artist whose experimental self-portrait imagery narrates the emotional abstracts of personal identity. Over the last three years, Leanne's creative curiosity with photographic imaging and editing has expressed, as the artist describes, concepts of "complicated fringe" or the "double." The imaginative and exploratory nature of Leanne's self-portrait imagery visualizes the magical and multifaceted sides of her personality.
The emotionality and duality of self is presented as self-portrait storytelling. The influence of Leanne's theatre background and the dynamism of her visual imagery (i.e. the use of florals, visual effects, colorful abstractions, and playful narratives), does not mirror a distortion of self, but rather, reflects a mindfulness of emotional constructs. The role and presence of self is emphasized through the motif of Leanne's own introspective and contemplative gaze, which connects viewers to Leanne's inner world of emotion.
While Leanne's images are framed with edges, they are not confined by their borders. Simplified abstractions appear on the surface. But intricately layered details, unravel the complex interaction between the duplexity of emotion and the multiplicity of identity. The artist creates multidimensional states of being, where energy has no barriers. These visual expressions are intentional acts of self-liberation, which transmute emotional energies into abstract connections. As the artist eloquently states, "...I seek a connection to self and the audience in that space of duality, building a bridge through emotion and humanity."
